In response to the sanctions imposed by the United States on the occasion of the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian government reported in a statement to the Foreign Ministry that it is imposing mutual sanctions against US President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Anthony from Tuesday, March 15, in addition to the US Secretary of Defense and the head of various agencies in the US government.

The sanctions include a ban on entry into the territory of Russia for both Biden and members of his government, who are included in the “black list”, but the Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Russia does not refuse to maintain “official contact” with those affected. On Tuesday, the White House downplayed the sanctions announced by Russia against US President Joe Biden and other US officials, joking that Moscow seems to have the wrong goal of imposing restrictions.

White House spokesman Jen Psaki recalled that the statement of the President of the United States was Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. This is because his father bears his name, and the surname does not appear in the sanctions list announced by Russia.

“My father may have been sanctioned because the president is a 'junior'. I hope he will rest peacefully.” Psaki said at a press conference every day.

For the rest, Biden, who is on the sanctions list, minimized the impact of the Moscow announcement. It is not surprising to know that none of us are planning a tourist trip to Russia and that none of us have a bank account that we do not have access to, so we will get ahead.” The spokesperson concluded.

In addition to Biden, Blinken and Psaki, Russia's sanctions list includes Defense Minister Lloyd Austin, Joint Chief of Staff Mark Milly, and Biden's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

Also on the list are four other senior officials from the Biden government, including the CIA director, William Burns, and Samantha Power, director of the United States Development Agency (Uaid).

It was completed by Biden's son Hunter, former Secretary of State and former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Moscow's announcement is a retaliation for sanctions imposed by the United States on the occasion of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which affects Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The sanctions imposed by Moscow include a ban on entry into Russian territory against both Biden and members of his government on the “black list”. However, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Russia does not refuse to maintain “official contact” with those affected, according to local Russian agencies. The Russian government announced sanctions on Monday against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of the Canadian Parliament.
