Mauricio Martínez will not stop until justice is done against Toño Berumen

On March 9, inspired by the message of Sasha Sokol against Luis de Llano, who in the words of the singer “abused her” by having a romantic relationship when she was a minor, Mauricio Martínez decided to tell a personal story.

The theater actor revealed that he was sexually harassed almost 20 years ago by artistic representative Toño Berumen, who is now missing from the public stage, and doomed to tasks related to the Catholic Church.

In a series of posts on his Twitter account, the operación triunfo graduate said that during a casting, Berumen tried to spread with him by improperly touching him. In addition, he noticed that in the shower of the former Fey manager Mercurio, Kairo and Magneto a video camera was arranged to “record the young people while they were bathing”.

After some criticism for allegedly trying to steal prominence from Sasha Sokol, who triggered his complaint, in addition to the allegations of Pati Chapoy, who called him a “liar and trash”, the New York-based actor will bring the case to justice.

In a recent interview for Luis Cárdenas's radio program, the singer declared that he will not rest until he gets justice in the case he said he shares with many other men, who would be willing to tell his story.

“This is just beginning, gentlemen, so hold on because if I've already won the battle against cancer four times, this is nothing,” he said.

Martínez revealed that after uncovering his case, he has received the testimony of 14 other people, who claim to have experienced something similar to what he reported. Mauricio was questioned whether he would go to the authorities: “In the last 48 hours more than 14 victims of this man have come to me. I can't talk much about it, but of course the 14 victims want justice, so that the harassers and abusers do not continue to overlap,” he added.

Regarding the attitude that Chapoy took against the actor, Mauricio commented that this affected his mother and regretted that there are personalities in the entertainment industry who cover up the abusers and question the testimonies of the victims.

“My mother, from Spain, spoke to me crying and said to me: 'what is wrong with this lady? How dare they revictimize you like this?” , he sentenced.

The actor said he was willing to become a spokesperson for victims of this type of crime to stop the abuses of powerful men who take advantage of their privileged position to commit harassment against minors, men and women of all ages.

“I told it inspired by Sasha, for her great courage and I totally join the condemnation, with the denunciation, it is not easy to do what she did. I did it later, your hand shakes after I put 'send' to the tweet.. Not because you are a man or because you are a woman, a case is more or less important, it does not exclude gender or age,” she added.

Mauricio stressed that some people working in the media would be benefiting from this type of criminal behavior, so they cover up for abusers.

“What is more than demonstrated today by the regrettable comments of some communicators in Mexico is how bullying is protected, young people who want to make a career are abused by people in power and these people in the media, somehow benefit, this is what I want to show,” he said.
