Augsburg unable to avoid narrow defeat away to Stuttgart (2-1)

Victory over Augsburg on Friday, leaves Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team with 42 points in the competition after 31 games

Stuttgart snatched all three points from Augsburg in a 2-1 victory on Friday, at the Mercedes Benz Arena. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Stuttgart were hoping to get something from this game, following a previous defeat to RB Leipzig while Augsburg lost 3-2 in the last match they played against FC Köln. As the table looks today, Stuttgart and Augsburg are 9th, (42 points) and 13th, (33 points), in the table respectively, after 32 matches.

The first half of the game started well for Stuttgart, thanks to Philipp Forster giving The Reds the lead, 11 minutes in, seeing out the first half 1-0.

Fuggerstädter took the initiative in the second half, with a goal from Florian Niederlechner in the 59th minute. Stuttgart in turn, then responded in the 74th minute increasing their lead with an effort from Sasa Kalajdzic and seeing the game end 2-1.

For Stuttgart, Tanguy Coulibaly, Atakan Karazor, Erik Thommy, Darko Churlinov and Luca Mack, came on for Roberto Massimo, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Tanguy Coulibaly, Daniel Didavi and Philipp Klement. Augsburg replaced Jan Moravek, Ruben Vargas, Marco Richter, Iago and Andre Hahn for Daniel Caligiuri, Fredrik Jensen, Laszlo Benes, Mads Pedersen and Michael Gregoritsch.

Stuttgart will next travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach, while Augsburg will face Werder Bremen at home.
