Toronto 2015 Makes Final Pitch -- Monday Memo

(ATR) Toronto 2015 will present at the Pan American Sports Organization's General Assembly this week.

(ATR)The Pan American Sports Organization is holding its General Assembly at Mexico's Puerto Vallarta beach resort.

The main item on the agenda will be the countdown to the 2015 Pan American Games. Toronto, provincial capital of Ontario, is hosting the event which opens on July 10.

Toronto 2015 says close to 7,000 athletes from 41 countries in North and South America will compete in 365 events across 36 sports.In terms of the number of athletes competing, the Pan Am Games is the largest multi-sport event to be held in Canada.

The General Assembly is expected to conclude on Jan. 13.

PyeongChang Project Review

The IOC Coordination Commission for the 2018 Winter Olympics is visiting PyeongChang Jan. 14-16 to check in on preparations for the Games.

Members of the coordination commission, which is chaired by Gunilla Lindberg, include Ottavio Cinquanta,Prince Frederik of Denmark,Rene Fasel,Gian-Franco Kasper,Barry Maister,Adam Pengilly,Angela Ruggiero,Tsunekazu Takeda,Zaiqing Yu,Tatiana Dobrokhvalova,Edgar Grospiron, andTodd Nicholson.

Beijing Media Visit

The organizing committee for Beijing's bid for the 2022 Olympics is holding a press junket Jan.12-17.

Almaty, Kazakhstan is also bidding to host the 2022 Winter Games.

World Men's Handball Championship

The International Handball Federation is staging the 2015 World Men's Handball Championship Qatar.

Competition ends Feb. 1.

Asian Cup

Five cities in Australia are staging competition for the Asian Football Confederation's 2015 Asian Nations Cup, Jan. 9-31.

Matches will be held in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne,Newcastle, and Sydney.Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament with six spots reserved for the host country.
