World Games Officials Visit Lima
The 2021 World Games evaluation commission visits Lima, Peru Oct. 27-31.
Lima is the third and final candidate city the evaluation commission will visit, having visited Ufa, Russia, and Birmingham, United States earlier this month.
Officials tell Around the Ringsthe International World Games Association will announce the host city for the 2021 World Games on Jan. 22, 2015.
IAAF Visits Candidate Cities for 2019 World Championships
The International Association of Athletics Federations will evaluate two 2019 World Championship candidate cities this week.
Eugene, United States and Doha, Qatar will host the evaluation commission on Oct. 26-27 and Oct. 30-31 respectively. The commission visited Barcelona on Oct. 14-15.
A host city will be selected by the IAAF Council during its Nov. 18 meeting in Monaco.
Pistorius Could Face Harsher Sentence
Oscar Pistorius could still face a murder conviction and 15 years in prison for the 2013 shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, according to the AP. The prosecution could appeal the Paralympian's current sentence of five years within the week.
A spokesman for the prosecution confirmed to the AP last Friday thatChief prosecutor Gerrie Nel has consulted a South African criminal law specialist over an appeal in Pistorius' case.
Currently, the Olympian's defense team expects him to serve one-sixth of his five-year sentence. This meansPistorius could be released on house arrest after 10 months.
