(ATR) Aarhus, Denmark will host the 15th edition of the SportAccord Convention and general assembly next year at the Scandinavian Congress Center.

SportAccord Council president Francesco Ricci Bitti announced Aarhus as the next host of the convention during the opening ceremony for the 2016 edition currently underway in Lausanne, Switzerland.

"I am confident that our collaboration will provide an excellent platform for Aarhus and Sport Event Denmark to continue to support the international sport community, while meeting the needs of our stakeholders and delegates, and giving them the opportunity to embrace and experience a country which is passionate about sport," Ricci Bitti said.

Sport Event Denmark has been a partner of the convention since its inception in 2003. The company is a gold partner for the 2016 convention.

"We look forward to assisting SportAccord Convention in staging the Convention next year in Aarhus and to showing our ability to host this impressive event," says Sport Event Denmark chief executive Lars Lundov.

The 2017 SportAccord Convention is scheduled for April 2-7 and represents the first time Denmark has hosted the event. Denmark also welcomed leaders of the Olympic Movement to its capital Copenhagen for the 2009 IOC Session where Rio de Janeiro was selected as the host of the 2016 Summer Olympics.
