(ATR) Beijing 2022 is counting on Czech Olympic leaders to help revamp their ice hockey and biathlon skills in the lead up to the Winter Games.

"I'm amazed at the attitude of the Chinese," Czech NOC president Jiri Kejval said.

"They are very basic in ice hockey, but they want to qualify for the 2022 Olympic tournament.

"I like their energy and vision and we'd definitely like to help them with ice hockey and biathlon."

Kejval andCzech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka are visiting China this week to sign an official memorandum for the partnership.

Mlada fronta Dnes reports that last week,Chinese Olympic Committee president Liu Peng met with Czech hockey and biathlon athletes.

"He was surprised by lots of things such as the summer training on roller skates," organizer Vlastimil Jakes told the Czech daily.

In May, Prague and Ostrava successfully staged the IIHF 2015 World Ice Hockey Championships.

The Czech Republic is currently sixth in the International Ice Hockey Federation world rankings. China now ranks 38th.

The Chinese ice hockey team must rank in the top 18 teams in the world to participate in the 2022 Olympics.
