(ATR) To develop the pictograms for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games organizers turned to a large set of local creative artists: schoolchildren.

Children were asked to trace athlete poses for each sport. The catch? They could not lift their pencils from the paper.

The result created pictograms of one fluid line for each sport. Pictograms from all 34 sports showcased in Buenos Aires were produced.

"Our objective for the Buenos Aires 2018 pictograms was to show the essence of our project, and the children and youth from Buenos Aires are the centre of our Games," Gerardo Werthein, Buenos Aires 2018 spokesperson said in a statement.

"The pictograms are a gift from the schoolchildren in Buenos Aires to the young athletes of the world."

More than 500 students from around Buenos Aires were recruited for the program. The students were asked to create drawings of each pictogram with the specified instructions. Graphic designers then found common points in the drawings, distilling them into the pictograms. Buenos Aires 2018 said all pictograms were then approved by international federations.
