The International Olympic Committee today announced that Budapest has been selected to continue to the second stage of the bidding process to become the next Summer Olympics Host City after Tokyo.

Balázs Fürjes, Chairman of the Bid said: ‘We are delighted to be invited to continue this journey with the IOC and with our fellow bidding cities, and we would like to thank Jaqueline Barrett and Frank Fredericks and their

teams for all their efforts. Our intention and focus remain firmly on the goal as we transition into this second phase: that is, to demonstrate to the world that Budapest is the right city at the right time, with both the vitality and maturity to host an unforgettable 2024 Games.’

The Budapest Games concept focuses strongly on affordability and aims to recreate the celebration of great Games legacy such as that of Barcelona, which enabled the transformation of a city and a region. Budapest hopes to become a template for the IOC that will prove what can be achieved in hundreds of vibrant Olympic-sized cities all over the world.
