(ATR) The Youth Olympic Flame and the IOC President will meet in the world’s most southern city.

Thomas Bach will travel to Ushuaia, Argentina where he will rendezvous with the YOG flame in its final stop before heading to Buenos Aires.

Ushuaia, in Argentina’s Patagonia region, is known as the southernmost city in the world.

Bach is currently in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly, after which he will travel to Mexico City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1968 Olympics.

Bach will arrive in Ushuaia on September 30 along with Buenos Aires 2018 President and fellow IOC member Gerardo Werthein..

The YOG Flame has been touring Argentina since Aug. 5 and will cover approximately 14,000 kilometers before opening the third Summer Youth Olympic Games.

Wild Boars Invited to YOG

Thomas Bach formally invited the members of the Thai Wild Boars soccer team to the 2018 YOG in Buenos Aires.

Members of the team were trapped in a cave complex earlier this year which prompted the daring rescue followed around the world.

"The young Thai football players from the Wild Boar' showed great strength and resilience - truly Olympic Values," Bach said of the footballers. "This is why I asked them to come to the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires to share their experiences with other young athletes."

IOC MemberPatama Leeswadtrakul confirmed to Thai media that the invitation was delivered to the young footballers. The IOC would pay for travel and accommodation for the team, and there could be a friendly game played against a YOG futsal side, The Nation reported.

"All 13 players, their parents and entourage will be invited to share the experience with young athletes from all over the world by staying at the Athlete Village which is reserved only for athletes and officials," Leeswadtrakul said.

The 2018 YOG will open on October 6th in Buenos Aires. Around 4,000 athletes from 206 nations will participate in 32 sports.
