(ATR) A discussion on governance and constitutional reform will be organized online by the Pan American Weightlifting Federation (PAWF) this Saturday, October 31.
According to the official website of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the online event will be broadcast starting at 3:00 pm Lima time by the Zoom video communication medium and by the PAWF (FPLP in Spanish) Facebook page.
"The purpose is to provide a platform for American federations to discuss proposals related to the development of the new IWF constitution and bylaws," the IWF website noted.
Three panelists will present the main points of the constitutional reform in both English and Spanish.
The participation of the acting president of the IWF, the British physician Michael Irani, has been announced.
This event will take place at a critical time for the IWF where governance and reform issues are on the daily lips of the global weightlifting family.
The IOC has taken note of the latest situations that led to the dismissal of the American Ursula Papandrea and brought Irani to the interim presidency with whom the IOC has established contact.
In its latest statement the IOC said it "remains very concerned" by what it called recent "confusing decisions" by the IWF Executive Board.
The IOC was referring to consecutive replacements in the interim presidency and to the global governance of the International Federation.
The IWF has convened its constitutional and electoral reform congress for March 2021.
The president of the FPLP and one of the vice presidents of the IWF, the Peruvian José Quiñones, considered, without going into details, that "unfortunately the atmosphere is rarefied" due to what he called "continuous disqualifications".
Asked by Around the Rings, Quiñones denied that he would run for the presidency of the IWF.
"I have a commitment with the federations of America to fulfill my mandate, in addition, I believe that there are people more qualified than me for that position," he said.
So far, those interested in registering for the IWF presidential race have not admitted it in public.
