SEOUL, Korea (19 May, 2013) – Hanjin Group and Korean Air Chairman Yang Ho Cho was appointed Special Advisor of Finance and Marketing by the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) at the ITTF Annual General Assembly held on May 17 in Paris, France.

As the Special Advisor, Chairman Cho will assist the ITTF in securing financing and revenue sources, in addition to advising on marketing and related programs to enhance the work of the federation.

The appointment acknowledges Chairman Cho’s contribution over the years to the development of international table tennis. Chairman Cho is the President of the Korea Table Tennis Association and the Vice President of the Asia Table Tennis Union.

As an Ambassador of Peace and Sport, Yang Ho Cho played a strategic role in establishing the historic November 2011 Peace and Sport Table Tennis Cup, a table tennis tournament to encourage dialogue and reconciliation between nations. Ten countries participated in the tournament and it included the pairing of North Korea and South Korea in an event that united nations through table tennis and promoted peace through sport.

Last December, Korean Air and the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) partnered to conduct the UNOSDP’s Youth Leadership Camps (YLC). The 12-day camps, hosted 3-4 times per year around the world, teach young participants from disadvantaged/under-privileged communities both theoretical and practical methods of how sport can be used to promote change in communities. Korean Air will continue its effort to contribute to world peace through the support of amateur sports.
