Aarhus, Denmark will host the 2018 International Sailing Federation’s World Championships.

The Aarhus International Sailing Centre, located in the city’s harbor, will host the championship. Aarhus beat out Busan, Korea; Gdynia, Poland; and The Hague, Netherlands to win hosting rights.

"All four venues demonstrated passion and commitment to host the 2018 ISAF Worlds, which made ISAF's decision a difficult one to make," Jerome Pels, ISAF chief executive officer said in a statement.

The ISAF Executive Committee voted unanimously to award Aarhus the event. It is expected that the championship will serve as qualification for some sports in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"In recent years, Aarhus has demonstrated its expertise in hosting high-caliber sailing events featuring the finest sailors on the planet. We look forward to working closely with the organizing authority to deliver a world class event."

FIG Adopts New Calendar

The International Gymnastics Federation announced the adoption of a new calendar for the 2017-2020 Olympic Cycle.

The decision was made at the FIG Council in Kuwait on Saturday, and the calendar will be finalized at the 2015 FIG Council.

Future FIG World Championships will also take place in May instead of June. Doha, Qatar was allocated the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2018, and Melbourne Australia will host the 2015 FIG Council.

For the Rio 2016 Olympics, 26 athletes will qualify for the Olympics in Rhythm Gymnastics. This is an increase in two spots from the London Olympics in 2012.
