Nieuwegein, Netherlands, December 9, 2013. Wins in the first two World Cup races of the bobsleigh season have lifted American Steven Holcomb's two man bob into the projected gold medal position for next year's Winter Games, rising from bronze. This 15th projected gold for the United States in Sochi brings the country level on golds with leaders Norway on the Virtual Medal Table provided by Infostrada Sports.

The USA have also gained a silver in the Virtual Medal Table as speed skater Shani Davis has swapped places with Norway's Håvard Bøkko in the projected medals for the men's 1500m. Bøkko now occupies the bronze medal position.

The Virtual Medal Table is based on a statistical model for performance which takes account of results, competition level and the time since the performance was recorded. It is therefore dynamic and changes with every result, providing an ever updating forecast for the top eight in each of the events at next year’s Winter Games. The model outperformed all of the academic models in predicting the final medal table at last year’s Summer Games and its methodology has been improved for Sochi.
