Torch Relay Update -- Flame Tours One of Russia's "Greenest" Cities

(ATR) Olympic swimmer Anastasia Zueva and RIA Novosti chief editor David Nowak carried the flame through Penza on Friday, one of the "greenest" cities in Russia.

The flame traveled to Penza on Friday, one of the "greenest" cities in Russia. Sochi 2014 says 205 torchbearers will carry the flame through Penza including Olympic swimmerAnastasia Zueva and RIA Novosti chief editor David Nowak.

The relay route in Penza stretched across approximately 24 miles.

Soviet hockey playersVladimir and Alexander Golikov, Alexander Kozhevnikov, Vasiliy Pervukhin, Yury Moiseev, and Sergey Yashin all hail from Penza.

Day 97 of the torch relay will take place in Saratov, approximately 521 miles southeast of Moscow.

Over 130 torchbearers will run with the flame in Saratov, including Russian kickboxing championDatsi Datsiev and Olympic sprint canoerNatalia Lobova.

Sochi 2014 says the only Russian Nobel Prize winner in chemistry,Nikolay Semyonov,was born in Saratov.

On Sunday, the flame journeys 238 miles northwest from Saratov to the city of Tambov. The list of some 60 torchbearers for Tambov includes distinguished Russian trainerValery Sharapov.

Olympic cross-country skierSvetlana Nageykina was born in Tambov.

The flame is making its way back into European Russia, and ultimately Sochi, for the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 7.
