P&G Sponsors 28 Olympic Hopefuls

Procter & Gamble announced Wednesday that it will sponsor 28 U.S. athletes for the London Olympics.

The Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls include beach volleyball star Kerri Walsh, swimming champ Ryan Lochte and gymnast Alicia Sacramone. The athletes will represent 13 different P&G brands.

P&G also plans on raising $500,000 for its Team USA Youth Sports Fund, which will focus on increasing young people’s access to athletics.

The program is part of the company’s "Thank You Mom" campaign, a worldwide Olympic advertising plan targeted at this key demographic. Every time a web user "likes" the Facebook page for the campaign, P&G will donate $1 to the youth sports.

"Providing young people greater access to sports will help develop the next generation of athletes and spread the Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect," said USOC CEO Scott Blackmun.

Italians to Don Prada at Olympics

The Italian national sailing team will be decked out in Prada digs in London.

Prada and the Italian Sailing Federation announced this week that the fashion icon will sponsor both the Olympic and Paralympic teams.

"We are extremely proud to have Prada as a sponsor, the Prada brand is not just a flagship of Italy worldwide, but it has always been very closely connected to our sport and has nearly become synonymous with major sailing challenges," said federation president Carlo Croce.
