London 2012 Drops Network Infrastructure Partner

(ATR) LOCOG says it is parting ways with its Nortel, its tier one telecom partner of less than a year. Cisco is now the official network infrastructure partner, although at a lower level.

In June Nortel said it was selling some of its businesses, which meant that it could not fulfill the terms of the partnership.

“We part with Nortel on good terms,” London 2012 CEO Paul Deighton said in a statement.

“Nortel acknowledges our fixed deadlines and our desire to have a single supplier for our entire network infrastructure have been impacted by Notel’s decision to move towards standalone businesses. This is no way a reflection of their capabilities- this is all about meeting our fixed deadlines,” Deighton continued.

Cisco joins London 2012 as a tier two supporter.

Online Accreditation System for 2010

TOP sponsor Atos Origin introduced the first online accreditation system for the 2010 Winter Olympics last week. The online system is being hailed as environmentally friendly, because it eliminates the need to print and mail applications.

Among other things, the system will provide nearly 90,000 accreditation badges that identify them as athletes, coaches, media or other support personnel.

Air Canada Introduces Games Ad on Boeing 777

Olympic sponsor Air Canada introduced its new airplane that is designed to promote the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver on Wednesday.

The plane, a Boeing 777, features an ad on the side with Olympic images and colors.

It will be used on long haul trips, including flights between Europe and Vancouver that would be added for the 2010 Games.

…ConocoPhilips extended its sponsorship of the U.S. National Swim Team in a 10-year agreement. At 36 years, ConocoPhillips is the team’s longest-running sponsor. The company will make a yearly donation to the USA Swimming Foundation and continue to sponsor the ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships.

… The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (SYOGOC) has a new partner. ZenithOptimedia is the Youth Olympics media agency partner and will be responsible for marketing locally and internationally.

….The government of Nunavut – Canada’s largest territory or province -- will pay $168,000 to become a sponsor of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Nunavut will contribute nearly $84,000 to Own the Podium, the program designed to help Canadian athletes excel next year. The other half will be spent on promotional activities, including Nunavut Day. The sponsorship means the territory has the rights to use Olympic symbols and marks. Located in the northeastern part of the country, Nunavut was formed in 1999 when it separated from the Northwest Territories.

…Sperry Top-Sider, an American footwear maker, will continue as a US Sailing partner through the 2012 Olympics. Sperry Top-Sider becomes the Official Silver Partner of US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics and its official footwear partner. The company will also support the National Sailing Programs Symposium and various U.S. Championships.
