PyeongChang 2018 House in Rio Copacabana Beach Unveiled

POCOG will operate its 'PyeongChang 2018 House in Rio' on the Copacabana Beach, one of the most attractive tourist spots in Brazil, during the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

PyeongChang, July 21 – POCOG will operate its 'PyeongChang 2018 House in Rio' on the Copacabana Beach, one of the most attractive tourist spots in Brazil, during the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Re-modeling a 50 by 8 meters size kiosk on the beach, POCOG will create an open space where visitors will be able to envision and experience the atmosphere of the next Olympic Winter Games using the latest ICT (information and communications technologies) features.

In cooperation with Olympic Partner CocaCola, PyeongChang 2018 partners Samsung, KT, The North Face, and also with Korean government organizations, POCOG is also planning to show the beauty of Korea and its culture through various programs, such as automata exhibition and sand art.

Inside the house, visitors will be able to experience ski jumping through 4DVR (Four Dimensional Virtual Reality), while on the exterior stage facing the beach, Korean food tasting and performances like K-POP, Taekwondo, Korean classical music, and break-dancing will be presented.

POCOG President LEE Hee-beom, said, "I greatly support the successful hosting of the Rio Games. I wish the best to all of the participants." He continued, "Please also remember that the very next edition of the Olympic Games will be held in PyeongChang in 2018. I would like to invite everyone to the PyeongChang 2018 House in Rio, to feel the winter and the next Winter Games in advance, and taste the beauty of PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, and Korea."

The ‘PyeongChang 2018 House in Rio’ will open on August 6th, and welcome guests until August 21st during the Olympic period, and will re-open on September 7th till 18thfor the Paralympic Games period.

As a special addition to introduce PyeongChang 2018 at the directly opposite part of the earth from Korea, a mobile PyeongChang House will also navigate around South America to introduce the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, Korean culinary culture, and Taekwondo. Routes include Sao Paulo, Iguassu Falls, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Santiago.

About POCOG

The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) will host the XXIII edition of the Olympic Winter Games on 9-25 February 2018. Approximately 95 countries and 3,000 athletes are expected to take part in the first Olympic Winter Games to be held in Asia in 20 years. Seven sports comprising 15 disciplines will be on the official program.

The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will take place on 9-18 March 2018, with approximately 50 countries and 670 athletes competing. Six sports are on the Paralympic program.
