LIMA - The first Panam Sports Executive Committee Meeting of 2018 concluded March 14 in Lima, Peru, with a renewed focus towards establishing the organization as more than a regional leader of sport.

The path that will lead Panam Sports to an elevated position in the Olympic Movement and the world market was outlined in great detail to the executives throughout the two-day meeting in the host city of the 2019 Pan American Games.

Panam Sports President Neven Ilic led the Executive Committee through a thorough budget analysis that indicates a strong and positive financial outlook for the organization.

Included in the budget is the more than $1 million in relief efforts that Panam Sports and the International Olympic Committee are delivering through 2017-2018 to National Olympic Committees in the region that were struck by natural disasters.

The commitment to supporting the 41 National Olympic Committees of the Americas is more evident than ever, with an increased emphasis being placed on developing their sports infrastructure, facilities and sport performance programs.

In order to increase its market and brand exposure, Panam Sports is actively searching for and meeting with world-renowned companies to develop its own corporate sponsorship program that would extend value-in-kind services to the flagship event the Pan American Games, as well as new and innovative events that Panam Sports is developing.

Panam Sports Secretary General Ivar Sisniega presented the ideas and potential timetables for these events that will be further refined leading up to the Panam Sports General Assembly that will take place in Lima from September 4-5.

The strategic marketing and communications strategies of Panam Sports are also continuing to evolve. Greater emphasis will be placed on telling the stories of the great athletes throughout the Americas through a greater social media and digital presence fueled by our new website.

The website will feature all new communications from Panam Sports, including a monthly newsletter, special edition magazines and weekly updates about athlete performances and Organizing Committee progress.

The 16 Commissions of Panam Sports will also begin to have a greater and more impactful role in the organization, assisting with the development of modern events tailored to the next generation and ensuring the success of the Pan American Games and NOC development.

"I thought it was a very good and productive meeting. We had presentations from the marketing area, from the new department we’ve created to make sure the Commissions from Panam Sports are more dynamic and active as well as working, meeting and making real progress towards the goals of Panam Sports.

"We also looked at a series of new events including the Pan Am Youth Games, the Pan Am Junior Games and the Pan Am Beach Games which we’ll be exploring further," said Ivar Sisniega, Secretary General, Panam Sports.

"First of all I would like to commend the leadership of Panam Sports. The fact that this strategic planning process returned to the first ever workshop that the organization ever had in Washington D.C. two years ago, you are saying ‘I heard my membership and these are the issues’, said Keith Joseph, Third Vice President, Panam Sports.

"I think it reflects a willingness to listen to your constituents and involve the stakeholders. I also think the style of the meeting was particularly democratic and facilitates a new type of energy from the Executive Committee and I think this transformation bodes well for the future", added.
