The upcoming Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Erzurum, Turkey, will be broadcast on the Olympic Channel, after a ground-breaking deal was reached between rights-holders the European Olympic Committees (EOC), the Erzurum 2017 Organising Committee and the Olympic Channel. The agreement makes Erzurum 2017 available to a worldwide audience outside of the host country through the Olympic Channel’s global digital platform via olympicchannel.com and its mobile apps for Android and iOS devices.
The Olympic Channel begins its coverage of Erzurum 2017 in the Turkish winter sports resort this Sunday 12 February at 7 p.m. local time (5 p.m. CET) with the Opening Ceremony. Daily live coverage of the competition begins the following day, in addition to the production of 20-minute highlights packages in high-definition.
During the course of the five-day event, coverage from seven of the nine sports on the programme, including alpine skiing, curling, figure skating, ice hockey, short track speed skating, ski jumping and snowboarding, will be streamed live on the Olympic Channel.
EOC acting President Janez Kocijančič said:
"I am delighted that we have reached this agreement with the Olympic Channel as it will bring the excitement of the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival to the wider Olympic community and raise the profile of the young European athletes competing in Erzurum.
"As the first EOC event to be broadcast on the Olympic Channel, Erzurum 2017 is making history and this is a great reward for the hard work that the Organising Committee and the Turkish Olympic Committee have done in staging this event two years earlier than was originally intended."
Erzurum 2017 General Coordinator Necati Kaplan said:
"Everything in Erzurum is in place to deliver a fantastic edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival. Our venues are first class, our hosting concept has been designed to deliver a superb athlete experience, and we have an incredibly enthusiastic team of volunteers to support athletes, fans and officials.
"I am delighted that our event will be shown on the Olympic Channel. We are now even more determined to deliver the best possible EYOF experience for those in Erzurum, and those watching via the Olympic Channel."
Olympic Channel General Manager Mark Parkman said:
"We are thrilled to work with EYOF organisers to provide coverage of Erzurum 2017 to viewers around the world. Placing a spotlight on these athletes and sports during high-level competition is a perfect fit for our global platform and youthful demographic."
In addition to olympicchannel.com, the Olympic Channel’s coverage of Erzurum 2017 will also be available via the EOC website at http://www.eurolympic.org/.
