MP & Silva continues its winning streak of securing top-flight football content, with the announcement today of the English Premier League live audiovisual broadcast rights across all platforms, in East and Southeast Asia, including Live Matches and Clips Packages.
The leading international sports agency, which has the strongest portfolio of football media rights globally, has secured a deal for the exclusive distribution rights of the prestigious English Football Premier League in seven broadcasting territories, composed by 27 countries across Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Pacific Islands*, Taiwan, Philippines and Mongolia for three seasons from 2016/17 to 2018/19.
The deal underlines MP & Silva’s strong presence and expertise in the Asia-Pacific region, and its strong network of partnerships with major broadcasters. The agreement covers major markets including Japan, which is the fifth biggest TV market worldwide; South Korea, which has an increasing audience due to the rise of young talents; and Vietnam, where EPL is the most international sports content.
Currently, 2.7 billion viewers around the world watch the English Premier League and the Asia and Oceania region makes up more than 38% of that total figure.
Said Marco Auletta, MP & Silva’s Chief Executive Officer: "Given the star power attached to the English Premier League, we look forward to further strengthening the league’s presence in the Asia-Pacific region. We believe EPL’s fan base in these territories will continue to grow, and given the excitement over the signing of Japan International, Shinji Okazaki, to Leicester City, and South Korean Heung-Min Son to the Tottenham Hotspur, we can only expect this trend increasing."
Premier League Executive Chairman, Richard Scudamore, said: "MP & Silva has invested in Premier League rights in previous processes and we are very pleased they have chosen to do so again.
"We know they will distribute all the best Premier League action in a comprehensive and innovative manner to fans in the territories for which they have acquired our rights."
MP & Silva’s stellar portfolio of football media clients and global partners include the top European football leagues: Barclays Premier League, Serie A TIM, Ligue 1, Bundesliga, and LaLiga, the Scottish Professional Football League, the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, the Polish Ekstraklasa football league, and major football tournaments such as the Emirates FA Cup, South-American Copa America and Copa Do Brasil, and much more, such as the Football Association of Singapore and Football Association of Malaysia.
