London, United Kingdom; 1 March 2019: Senior officials from the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee have concluded a three-day visit to the UK this week to learn and apply lessons learnt from London 2012 to Lima in order to regenerate large parts of the Peruvian capital.
As part of the visit, Lima 2019 Carlos Neuhaus, together with the newly elected Mayor of Lima Jorge Muñoz, toured London 2012 venues and met with officials who were influential in delivering one of the most successful Olympic Games in history.
The visit took place in conjunction with the InPERU trade and investment roadshow, which saw 40 of Peru’s leading businesses travel to the UK together with the Peruvian Minister of Finance.
Peru and the UK’s foreign relations have strengthened in recent years following the UK’s appointment in April 2017 as the main delivery partner for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. The Government-to-Government Agreement has allowed best-in-class British expertise, many of whom played a pivotal role in London 2012, work side by side with their Peruvian counterparts to deliver the Games in Lima.
Speaking on his visit to London, Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said:
"The Pan American and Parapan American Games will be a historic first for Peru and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to leaving a meaningful legacy for the country, which we are committed to maximizing.
"That is why we have been touring the London 2012 Olympic Park, to learn first-hand how the Games allowed London to transform one of the least developed parts of the city into the bustling community it is today.
"I want to thank our hosts for their excellent hospitality and for their willingness to share so many lessons that were learnt from London 2012, so they can be successfully applied to the city of Lima."
