(ATR) Carlos Neuhaus hopes to put into practice in Lima '19 several of the experiences acquired by the organizers of the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

"The visit was very rewarding," said the president of the Organizing Committee of the next Pan American Games in a conversation with Around The Rings after his four-day visit to the Australian event.

During his trip, Neuhaus took advantage of his last day in Gold Coast to tour the Athletes Village "from the rooms to the dining room".

He also held a meeting with Neil Carney, Chief of Operations of the oceanic event, who has already been confirmed in his post for the next Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Great Britain, in 2022.

The Pan American Village in Lima will have a total of 1,096 apartments in its seven towers: four of 20 floors and three of 19.

Additionally, for the Parapan American Games in the Peruvian capital, 336 apartments will be adapted to the various disabilities of the athletes. Larger elevators will also be placed for wheelchairs.

Neuhaus assures that from Commonwealth Games he has compiled important details about matters relating to organization, budgets, strategies of use of infrastructure after the Games, participation of volunteers, relations with the press and details about the security system of a major sports event.

He revealed that he also met with the Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment of Australia, Steven Ciobo, and with representatives of companies linked to the Commomwealth Games also associated in Lima with the Pan American Games.

The meeting with Minister Ciobo came weeks after the governments of Peru and Australia signed a Free Trade Agreement that has awakened great expectations among the companies of the South American nation.

According to Neuhaus, several COPAL officials also participated this week in the SportAccord Convention, in Bangkok, Thailand, which brings together the world sporting leaders including the presidents of the international federations linked to the Pan American Games program.

In recalling his recent conversation with the new president of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, he said that "(the President) is very much in favor of the Games and is convinced of its importance."

In that meeting, the President of Lima '19 says that Vizcarra expressed the need to take advantage of the impact of the Games to promote sports in Peruvian schools.

"He's a great tennis player; we do not have to explain much about the importance of sport, "Neuhaus said.

Vizcarra, who became President of Peru after the sudden resignation of Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, is familiar with the details of the Pan American Games from his experience as Minister of Transport and Communications between 2016 and 2017.

Sports construction continues to be the focus of attention in the Peruvian capital with461 days until the opening of the Pan American Games.

"All the infrastructure is progressing intensively," Neuhaus insisted to ATR.
