LA 2024 will today complete its first full set of consultations with each of the 28 summer International Federations, as the Candidature Committee continues to collaborate closely with sports experts on a Games Plan to create the ultimate personalized athlete experience for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
LA 2024 sports director Doug Arnot will meet with the International Handball Federation in Basel, Switzerland, today, bringing to a close the first round of highly beneficial consultations, which began in January 2016. LA 2024 has used the meetings to introduce its venue plans and provide an overview of the Games Concept. LA 2024 has also conducted a second round of consultations with many international federations, receiving invaluable insight on how to optimize its sports venues and athlete experience from the people who know their sports best: the IFs’ sports experts.
With only one permanent venue to build, there is a unique opportunity for LA 2024 to focus on the athletes. From the city’s abundance of existing, modern and world-class sports facilities, to its ideal weather, to an Olympic and Paralympic Village situated on UCLA’s state-of-the-art campus, an LA Games in 2024 will raise the bar for delivering ideal conditions for peak performance.
LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman said: "We have enjoyed these very constructive meetings between LA 2024 and each of the 28 International Federations. Every year, these experts stage world-class events and it is vital that we learn from their experience and incorporate their best practices. I’d like to congratulate the IOC for establishing a Candidature Process which allows for a collaborative, integrated and iterative approach to developing the Games Plan. This dialogue with world-leading experts gives us a great chance to develop a concept that offers the best possible Games experience for the entire Olympic Movement."
LA 2024 Vice Chair and Director of Athlete Relations Janet Evans said: "Over 1000 Olympic and Paralympic athletes already choose to live and train in LA, and we’re really excited about telling the world what it is that makes our city such a great place to be an athlete. LA 2024 is grateful to each of the IFs for allowing us the opportunity to meet with them and for giving us such insightful, constructive feedback. We are working hard to build a bid that prioritizes the needs of athletes and these meetings have been essential to that process."
