Golf Venue Named for European Championships -- Sponsors Spotlight

(ATR) The first ever European Golf Team Championships will be contested on the Gleneagles course.

The hotel chain has signed on an as a host venue and official supporter of the 2018 European Championships according to a release. Golf will be held at the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course in Glasgow, one of the two host cities for the championships.

Both men’s and women’s events will be held at the championships, along with a mixed event for the first time. The championships are being held with support of the European Tour according to the release.

"The event will build on Gleneagles’ long history of raising the bar in golf and breaking cultural boundaries in sport – including the first match between British and American professionals in 1921," Bernard Murphy, Gleneagles’ Managing Director, said in a statement.

Glasgow is co-hosting the 2018 European Championships along with Berlin. The quadrennial event aims to bring together European Championships in athletics, aquatics, cycling, golf, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon in consolidated locations.

EY Expanding Rio 2016 Professional Development Program

EY will continue its pilot professional development program for high performance athletes.

The company said in a release the program designed for Rio 2016 athletes was considered a success, and will begin a new round of hires in summer 2017. EY will work with Athlete Career Transition Ltd. to help recruit athletes to positions within EY’s global framework.

"Elite athletes thrive in a culture of high-performing teams, and their perseverance, drive and leadership are all transferable qualities that are incredibly beneficial in business," Nancy Altobello, EY Global Vice Chair, Talent, said in a statement. "The skills and experiences they possess will contribute to our purpose of building a better working world."

For the new round of hires, EY will work from a pool of athletes from British & Irish Lions rugby tour, the National Football League (NFL), the Women’s Rugby World Cup, and the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
