(ATR) Claudia Bokel succeeded Frank Fredericks as chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission in 2012.

The fencing silver medalist at the Athens 2004 Games took on the job after four years as a member and vice-president of the committee.

She has taken to the role with relish, using her experience of three Olympics to help promote and protect the interests of athletes.

The 39-year-old works closely with the continental Olympic bodies, NOCs and international sports federations to give a voice to athletes. She is their link to the IOC’s top table.

An IOC member since 2008, she became an executive board member last year. Bokel also sits on the entourage and ethics commissions.
