Golden 25 -- Argentina IOC Member #25 Gerardo Werthein

(ATR) Gerardo Werthein is a rising figure from the Americas. He will be in the spotlight in 2013 as a leader for the team in Buenos Aires hosting the IOC Session in September. With the selection of a 2020 Olympics city and election of an IOC President on the agenda, Werthein will have a chance to impress his IOC colleagues.

In addition to the IOC Session, Werthein leads the campaign to win the 2018 Youth Olympic Games for the Argentine capital. Buenos Aires is one of three Latin American cities bidding. The IOC shortlist will be announced in February; the vote comes in July.

Dr. Werthein, 57, is a veterinarian by profession, but now is known for his leadership across a range of major Argentine companies.

Equestrian is his sport. Werthein used to compete in show jumping and is involved with international federation FEI. He became NOC president in 2009 and an IOC member in 2011.
