(ATR) The chairman of the US Olympic Committee is in the spotlight over the possibility of a US city bidding for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Larry Probst will have major influence as he and his colleagues on the USOC board beside which city to nominate, a decision expected by the end of 2014.

Since his selection as USOC chair in 2008 Probst has grown in international stature, starting out with no experience in the world of the Olympics. He was elected to the IOC in 2013, the first time since 2002 that the USOC president has held an IOC seat.

Probst sits on the IOC Marketing Commission and his ascendancy as an IOC member means he could take on the chairmanship of that commission. He is one of the IOC members who has significant experience in the business world, currently chairman of EA, the electronic games company.

Will be interesting to see whether Probst and the USOC need to police any athlete protests in Sochi over the anti-gay propaganda law.

2013 ranking: 14
