Launch of dedicated training programme at its London Academy

London, United Kingdom, 23 May 2014:

This week marked the launch of the UK Alumni Programme (UKAP) by Fight for Peace, the NGO that combines boxing and martial arts with education and personal development. The first UK Alumni Programme (UKAP) training course was delivered this week at the London Academy, with four organisations taking part. Over the next two years, a further 18 organisations from the UK will participate in the programme.

Designed to enable Fight for Peace to support young people on a national scale, the UKAP will target cities in the UK where issues of youth violence are most severe. These cities were identified by PwC who provided Fight for Peace with pro bono support by carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the issues, drawing on various qualitative and quantitative data sets and looking for areas with the highest levels of youth violence and young people ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’ [NEETs].

The programme for the organisations consists of a one week intensive course at the London Academy followed by twelve months of consultation support which will mainly take place at each organisation’s venue. The organisations will also have access to the Fight for Peace toolkit which provides a wide range of programme implementation resources. Members of FFP’s Global Alumni community, consisting of 64 organisations across 22 countries, are all aligned in their use of boxing and martial arts as a platform for youth development work.

Luke Dowdney MBE, Fight for Peace Founder and Director, said:

"We’re delighted to be launching our UK Alumni Programme as an extension of our work reaching young people across the UK and we have worked closely with PwC to ensure that we have correctly identified the key areas that most need our help and support. This is an exciting time for the London Academy to showcase the excellent work it has been delivering since 2007 to organisations that want to put on similar programmes and activities. We look forward to seeing first-hand some positive results."
