The Peace and Sport Image of the Year, awarded each year since 2008 to a photo that has captured the power of sport to unite and bring together communities, will for the first time this year be voted for by Peace and Sport Champions for Peace.

More than 80 international athletes including Novak Djokovic, Yelena Isinbaeva and Sébastien Loeb, have mobilized their efforts for the initiative. To date, more than 60 Champions have made their voices heard.

The image that receives the most votes will be announced at the SportelMONACO Georges Bertellotti Golden Podium Awards evening on 8 October by legendary athlete and Champion for Peace Wilson Kipketer.

The four shortlisted images are:

‘United beliefs on the pitch’

On 1 September 2014, Rome hosted an interreligious ‘match for peace’ bringing together footballing legends from diverse religious backgrounds.

‘Peace on the service line’

A series of friendly volleyball matches between Iran and the US this summer enabled renewed dialogue between the two nations.

‘Finding peace through dance’

The documentary ‘Dancing in Jaffa’ explores an initiative by Pierre Dulaine, a world renowned ballroom dancer from Israel, to use dance as a means of bringing together young Palestinians and Israelis.

‘World Refugee Day: football in the face of adversity’

In honour of World Refugee Day on 20 June 2014, a major football tournament was held at Zaatari refugee camp (Jordan) to put the smiles back on the faces of 1,500 youngsters, most of them Syrian refugees.

Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport: "Involving Champions for Peace in the vote for the Peace and Sport Image of the Year will help us give more recognition and exposure to the award. Athletes are the best ambassadors for the unique role that sport plays in social progress. They know how well images can move us, make us think and sometimes, take action. I want to thank them all for their fantastic support for this initiative."
