With less than a year before PyeongChang takes center stage to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, more than 200 international sports journalists from over 100 countries gathered in PyeongChang and Seoul for the 80th Congress of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) from May 9 – 12.
The first two days of the Congress were held in Seoul after which delegates and guests traveled to PyeongChang to visit the venues of the Winter Games in the mountain cluster and coastal cluster.
On May 12, the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) gave international sports journalists an overview of the current preparations and revealed the cutting edge ICT services that will be introduced at the upcoming Winter Games.
The 80th AIPS Congress touched on a number of important topics including the elections of the continental section of AIPS Europe. Overall, PyeongChang 2018 preparations were the highlight of the agenda during this year’s event.
POCOG President LEE Hee-beom said, "With only 273 days until the Olympic Games, the international media is showing more interest than ever before. AIPS Congress is a great opportunity for leading sports journalists to get a glimpse of our preparations and visit the site of the most compact and largest Winter Games ever."
AIPS President Gianni MERLO mentioned, "Korea has done a fantastic job to host such an event in a very difficult situation with the elections and a government that changed completely. The overall preparations have been fantastic."
