Practice Sport at Home, Slovakia

Due to the corona crisis and limited possibilities to practice sport in the time of serious restrictions the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (SOSC) in cooperation with the Radio and Television of Slovakia (RTVS) has launched the a project in April - „Practice Sport at Home, Slovakia".

Through this project well-known Slovak athletes are encouraging general public to practice sport at home.

In normal situation the SOSC, starting from the end of March, would have organized in 8 mayor Slovak cities „Practice Sport, Slovakia" project, that was launched last year. However, the events were initially cancelled and only some of them are

postponed to be organized if the corona crisis development will allow mass events later this year.

The new situation called for a new project – one that is adjusted to the current

situation when almost everyone is staying at home for extended periods of time. This

was made in close cooperation between the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee

and the RTVS. The pilot of the „Practice Sport at Home, Slovakia" project was

broadcasted on 27th April. Now the general public has the opportunity to be daily

inspired for more than next 2 months by the Slovak top athletes on how to practice

at home utilizing ordinary household items.

Moreover, each of the 15 minutes video includes a special „challenge" featuring

special tricks of top athletes where the general public can join and compete. The

athletes are not only practicing sport in these videos, but also responding to

questions from TV commentators. In addition, the videos also include some of their

competition´s footage. The videos are released through the RTVS broadcasting (on its

three channels – Jednotka, Dvojka and Trojka) and through the SOSC social media

channels and website.

Among the top Slovak athletes taking part in this project are for example the triple

Olympic Champion - biathlete Anastasia Kuzmina, another Olympic medallists -

shooter Danka Bartekova (also IOC and IOC Athletes’ Commission Member) and

white-water canoeist Matej Benus, multiple World and European champion

white-water canoeist Alexander Slafkovsky, triathlete Richard Varga, biathlete Paulina

Fialkova, sprinter Jan Volko, archer Alexandra Longova, gymnast Barbora Mokosova,

white-water kayaker Jakub Grigar and many-many others.

The main goal of the project „Practice Sport at Home, Slovakia" is to help citizens of

Slovakia to stay in a good mental mood and in a good physical shape in the hard time

of corona crisis, and to improve their immunity. Examples of the top athletes show

that people can be physically active also in their safe home environment, without

taking a risk to practice sport in the places with a big concentration of people.

„I am extremely glad that our top athletes are able to be role models for everyone

and showcase how they can be active and moving effectively also in this hard times.

This is a source of motivation and positive energy," quoted SOSC president Anton
