74% of young Parisians plan to attend as spectators and nearly 9 out of 10 see the Games as an opportunity to bring the country closer together. Support has been consistently high since the launch of the bid in 2015.

A new survey has revealed that 82% of youth in France support Paris’s candidature for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, highlighting the bid’s strong public support and demonstrating the impact of its comprehensive, nationwide public consultation programme. The level of support rises to 88% in the Greater Paris region, with the capital’s youth showing extremely high levels of engagement with the bidding process. The representative online survey of 1,000 French youth aged 15-25 years old was carried out by Elabe polling institute on behalf of the Paris 2024 bid committee earlier this month.

Key highlights from the survey include:

· More than eight out of 10 young people (82%) are in favour of hosting the Games – with 88% in Paris supporting the candidature

· 84% of French people between the ages of 15 and 25 are aware of the candidacy of the City of Paris for the 2024 Games – this rises to 92% in the Greater Paris region

· 72% of young people in France were optimistic Paris would be awarded the Games in September

· In Paris, 72% would be interested in helping to organise the Games and 74% to attend as spectators

89% of French youth surveyed also see the Games as a way to unite the French people, with 84% viewing the Games as an opportunity to advance the practice of sport in the country and 70% considering it a project that will positively impact the future of France and its people. A confirmation that legacy is becoming a reality for the Generation 2024.

With less than six months to go until the International Olympic Committee Host City decision in Lima on 13 September, the news is welcomed by the Paris 2024 Bid Committee, which from the beginning of its candidature, has been committed to mobilising its ‘Generation 2024’ behind the Games.

Paris 2024 Co-Chair Tony Estanguet , said:

"We are delighted to announce the results of our recent survey, which shows 82% of young people in France and 88% in Paris supporting our bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is also great to see so many young people planning to attend the Games as spectators and get involved as employees or volunteers. This shows the passion and excitement there is among our young people for hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games, such a vital factor in the continued growth of the Olympic Movement.

"The Paris 2024 bid has captured the imagination of young people in France who, like us, see the Games as a tool for unity and real social purpose that can help accelerate positive change across the country and beyond. We are committed to engaging and inspiring the next generation of athletes, fans and leaders who will help us deliver a spectacular celebration of sport in 2024 that will leave a lasting legacy on the people of France."

Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois, said:

"Public support is key from the bid phase to the delivery of the Games and the spectacular celebration it brings. We are very proud to see how our youth has embraced Paris 2024, and we know it is because there is a sense of belonging, of a shared adventure.

"This project shows it is a splendid opportunity to bring the country together, which is a belief shared by nearly 90% of youngsters who see the inspirational power of the Games. This support gives us even more motivation to continue to work hard to show the world that we have the right vision for the right moment for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024"
