(ATR) Niklas Backstrom can finally, officially call himself a Sochi 2014 medalist.

On Thursday, the NHL Players Association tweeted that the Swedish star had received his silver medal from the IOC.

The delay was a result of Backstrom failing a drug before Sweden’s gold medal ice hockey game against Canada. He was then suspended for the match.

He received his medal at a ceremony in Sweden.

"While I will always be disappointed that I wasn't able to play in the gold medal game with my fellow countrymen, I'm pleased that my name has been cleared by the IOC," Backstrom said in a statement released in March after the IOC determined he had not violated any anti-doping regulations.

After a 6-month wait, @backstrom19 finally received his silver medal from the Sochi Olympics on Thursday.
