BERLIN - German Chancellor Angela Merkel's CDU holds a congress to choose a new party leader. The candidates are expected to speak before members vote and the new leader is announced.
ORDER OF EVENTS:
Candidates for CDU leadership speaking (in the following order: Armin Laschet, Friedrich Merz, Norbert Roettgen)
followed by election of new party leader
followed by President of European People's Party EPP, Donald Tusk, addressing CDU convention.
followed by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz addressing CDU convention.
followed by Belarussian opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaja addressing convention.
followed election of CDU federal leadership
closing words by newly elected CDU leader
